“I ain’t afraid of no ghosts!” Well, you should be…

In case you’ve failed to notice the onslaught of television ads, a rather big game comes out today. Call of Duty is arguably the biggest franchise in gaming history, with each new title breaking the sales records established by the title that came before it.

The latest iteration of the franchise is Call of Duty: Ghosts. Created by Infinity Ward, Ghosts is set in the near-future, ten years after the United States has suffered a devastating attack. America is no longer the most powerful nation in the world and is struggling merely to survive. The remnants of the Special Forces, known simply as “Ghosts”, are the sharp end of the spear protecting the tottering nation from annihilation.

Of course, Ghosts wouldn’t be a Call of Duty title without an awesome multiplayer experience, and Ghosts will certainly deliver.

Signature Call of Duty elements such as class customization and leveling up return with tweaks, but Infinity Ward has added some new features. Squads allows players to customize and create their own team of soldiers and pit them against other players’ AI squads. Friends can also join up and play as your squadmates. Extinction is a twist on the familiar zombie mode, as players fight to exterminate an “inhuman menace” from a Colorado town.

Oh, and players get to play as Riley, a military canine.

Call of Duty: Ghosts launches today on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and PC. It will be available as a launch title for both the PS4 (November 15) and Xbox One (November 22). Check with your local retailer as many stores are offering upgrade programs for those who purchase a current-gen copy but would like to get a next-gen version once the new consoles are released.
