So you want to learn about video games but really don't have the time to sit through a few videos to learn? Check out our crash course tips for video games 101.
Big 3
This term refers to the top video game companies on the market for the past 10 (sometimes 20+) years. The Big 3 includes:

- Founded in 1889 as a trading card company. Started in the video game market in 1974 and is one of the most influential companies in the gaming industry
- Makers of most recently Wii (motion control system) and DS (handheld system)
- Famous games include Mario Brothers, Zelda, Wii Sports and Wii Fit.

- Microsoft was founded in 1975 but did not get into the video game market until the 2001 release of the Xbox
- Makers of the most current Xbox 360 and coming soon Project Natal (motion control )
- Famous game by far is the exclusive first person shooter Halo

- Founded in 1945 and originally partnered with Nintendo to develop gaming computer chips. When Nintendo bailed on the agreement to go with a rival company, Sony started their own video game division out of anger. Out of that anger came the Playstation 1 console that changed the way games are seen and used.
- Makers of most recently the Playstation 3 (aka PS3; is a console based system), the Playstation Portable (aka PSP; handheld based system) and coming soon Sony will enter the motion control market.
- Famous games include Grand Tourismo, Ratchet and Clank, and God of War.
Not Sure What System To Buy?
If you are just getting introduced into the video game arena, I would suggest starting out playing with a friend who already owns one of the Big 3 systems. You could be the type that wants to get up and move around when you play video games (Nintendo Wii), sit on a beach and play a hand held game (PSP) or have the guts to take on a high quality advanced tactical game (Xbox). Once you get a general feel of what games you like, choose the system that has those kinds of games.
