Music at sporting events is a given. But what happens when songs are played too often? Here are 15 songs sports has ruined.

Whether you’re tailgating in the parking lot or cheering on a fight at a hockey game, music plays a big role in sports.

Music is supposed to keep the crowd pumped and engaged with the events on the field. But what happens when sporting events ruin a song because they play it too much?

So we gathered our internet friends and started to debate. Perhaps some of these songs were initially created as a sports anthem or they just suffered a fate worse than death.

MY PERSONAL LIST

‘Sweet Home Alabama’ by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Ahhh the Southern anthem every teenager over the past 25+ years has grown up loving. But when you spend years around sports, you become well aware that this song has become a game requirement for some strange reason.

Former Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee agreed by saying, “Once you hear it start, it just sucks the life out of the entire stadium.”

‘The Waiting’ by Tom Petty

Every hockey game there are at least two occasions where this song is played. Every. Single. Game.

‘Sweet Caroline’ by Neil Diamond

It’s played at almost every sporting event and every wedding you attend and dear God WHEN WILL IT STOP.

‘Keep Em’ Separated’ by Offspring

If Tom Petty’s ‘The Waiting’ is played during a hockey penalty/goal review, then this is the song played after every fight.
