Sure it'd be fun to race Mario himself in go-cart but how fun is it to play out a scene in Call of Duty?
Its often said that when you immerse yourself in a new game, sometimes its hard to separate the real-world logic from gaming logic. Back when Splinter Cell games were good (before Conviction), it was hard for me to walk into a building in real life and not scope the building for lights I need to take out to provide the proper shadow cover. At some point a game does take over your subconscious into thinking the same rules apply in real life as the game and it can be tough to separate the two especially when a good game can grab your attention for hours a day.
Such is the case in the new fan-made movie called "Game Time" made by David Dincer, where two German gamers are sucked into a real life video game ala The Ring style where watching a simple video can curse you into a secret world filled with creepy fog, run down buildings and fabulous zombies.
I. Hate. Zombies.
I cannot stress this enough. Games that have zombies, I don't play em'. Movies that have zombies? I'll laugh in your face before I watch a zombie movie. Zombies scare me to the point where in the first Uncharted every time a zombie wave appeared to try and eat my face off, I had to hand the controller to someone else in the room to beat it for me.
I. Hate. Zombies.
Because of my hatred, of course the real life situation these two gamers are faced with is how to defend off the wave of zombies that are about to start. In the video, they proceed to stock up on ammo and guns in a Call of Duty WAW scene but meanwhile all you can think is "what would I do in that situation?"
If I'm in this situation, I'm going to stock up with every gun you can give me and go out in a blaze of glory or simply (and probably more likely) curl up in a fetal position and cry until the zombies killed me.
The short movie is surprising well shot and edited, especially for the fact of doing all this in his parents garage. Though the actors intensity could be, well, more intense (dude totally has zombies 3 feet from him and he's reloading like its a Sunday picnic) but no matter how real a game looks on tv, to actually picturing being placed into one is a challenging (and terrifying) thought.
