Back in the early 90’s, Billy Beane and the Oakland A’s pretty much revolutionized the way “scouting” in MLB occurred. Beane’s use of advanced data analysis to put the cheapest but best team on the field he could possibly afford lead them to the legendary 20 game win streak and an eventual book. This process was considered so successful that the term “Moneyball” was coined that several other teams followed for years.
The book written by Michael Lewis was also so successful, that a movie was a put into the works and here we are today.
With a little less than 3 months away from the movie’s release date, we finally have our first full length view of stars Brad Pitt as A’s GM Billy Beane and Jonah Hill as Harvard Math wiz Peter Brand (renamed from Paul DePodesta). And the movie looks like it could be really really good.

So we have a new baseball movie that looks legitimately good, stars Brad Pitt and then add in some music that sounds like its from Friday Night Lights and you have me sold.
Moneyball is set to release on September 23rd of this year.
From Gizmodo:
“Directed by Oscar-nominee Bennett Miller (Capote), the film also stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as A's manager Art Howe and former San Francisco Giants shortstop Royce Clayton as then-A's shortstop Miguel Tejada (who coincidentally now plays for the Giants). Spoiler alert: The film will almost certainly culminate with the 2002 club's historic 20-game win streak. That 20th game was certainly the stuff of any Hollywood screenplay. Playing at home, the A's blew an 11-run lead, only to have Scott Hatteberg (played by Parks and Recreation's Chris Pratt) hit a game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth. In the book, Hatteberg is one of those A's most championed by Beane and his progressive style of player evaluation."
