LINE. DEFINE. DIVINE.
Even if you have your best line well rehearsed, it’s still good to diversify your act. Whether you choose to go thick or thin, blurry or precise, your defining line can also define your look. So don’t get typecast. Be dramatic with a precise liquid liner, or show your soft yet definitive side with a smoky line. For low-maintenance looks, just line your upper lid. Underlining only your lower lid makes eyes look smaller. Lock in a lush lash look by using eye liner to fill in your lash line.
HOW TO CHOOSE
Form: Your two choices are either a pencil or a liquid form. Pick the eye liner that gives you the look you want and is comfortable for you to apply. Pencil eye liners are easier to control and blend well for softer, natural-looking definition, but may require touch-ups during the day. For subtle to classically lined eyes, use a wood pencil. For self-sharpening convenience and defined color, try a mechanical eye liner. Liquid eye liners deliver more distinctive definition and offer longer wear, but can be harder to apply since liquid is less forgiving and takes a few moments to dry.
End look: Your desired look will help you determine which eye liner to use. For a natural look, pick a wood pencil or a careful application of liquid liner in a subtle shade for a soft, thin line on your top lid. For a more defined look, consider a mechanical eye liner to apply heavier definition. Know that you can also vary the effect of any eye liner you choose when you alter the width of your eye liner, wear multiple layers for intensity, smudge the line for a softer effect or if you line both your upper and lower lids. You can define your ultimate line.
HOW TO FIND MY SHADE
Make it an easy choice with black or brownish black shades, which are flattering for most women regardless of their eye color. Eye liners do come in a range of colors though, so you can also get creative. If you wear eye shadow, you could coordinate your eye liner to emphasize a colorful effect. You could also choose your shade based on your desired look. For daytime, use lighter shades of brown and grey. For night, consider higher impact shades. If you want your eye liner to really stand out, wear it in a fun color with a neutral shadow for a striking effect.
